International Women's Day 2023

International Women's Day 2023

International Women's Day is an important date in our calendar. It provides an opportunity for us to celebrate women's social, economic, cultural and political achievements everywhere. As part of our celebrations, we hosted a special event for colleagues across the organisation.

Hosted live from our London office, we were joined by special guest speaker Claire Lomas, who told her inspirational story about overcoming adversity and pushing barriers after an accident left her paralysed from the chest down. Since her accident, Clare has gone on to walk the London Marathon, compete in motorcycle races, gain her pilot’s licence and raise thousands for various charities.

Claire was joined by our host, Alex Aljoe, Anna Barsby, our Exec sponsor and Chief Product and Technology Officer, Vaughan Lewis, our Chief Strategy Officer, and Anne de Kerckhove, our Board's Director of Workforce Transformation, to discuss all things equity and how we can embrace this at 888 William Hill.

The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day was #EmbraceEquity. We’ve been focussing on raising awareness about what equity is and how we can achieve it. So, what is equity…?

Unlike equality, which focuses on fairness of opportunity by treating everyone the same regardless of our differences, equity recognises that we’ve all had different backgrounds, different starting points in life, and different circumstances along the way. And because not everyone has had equal opportunities in life, some people need more support than others to achieve the same outcomes.

We asked our Business Leaders across the organisation ‘What does Equity mean to you?’.

Take a look below at what they had to say!

Big thanks to everyone who joined us virtually and in person as we celebrated International Women’s Day.
